CSAS Hosts University of Colorado Field Camp
CSAS News: January 2018
Dr. Brandon Vogt from the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, and Colleen Garrity from SUNY Geneseo – Department of Geography, visit Silverton with ~15 students every January for a week-long field class in physical and cultural geography. Students tackle research questions ranging from “what makes avalanche forecasting so difficult” to “if I was a water manger and had to monitor the snowpack, how would I do it?”. CSAS hosts 4 class sessions and 2 field labs for the group as well as lead field excursions to Red Mountain Pass and Molas Pass for hands-on immersion in snow science, meteorological monitoring and instrumentation.
